SALT MARSH, Trelawny — One man was killed and seven other people taken to hospital following a three-vehicle collision on the Salt Marsh leg of the northern coastal highway, yesterday.
The deceased has been identified as 25-year-old Christopher Cooper of St Ann.
According to the police, about 1:30 pm Cooper was driving a Toyota Yaris motor car with three passengers aboard towards Falmouth, when he lost control of the vehicle on approaching a bend on a section of the Salt Marsh main road and collided with a Nissan AD Waggon motor car carrying four passengers, before ending up in the path of a Hino bus which was transporting 33 tourists to the Sangster International Airport.
The bus and the Nissan motor car, the police said, were travelling toward Montego Bay.
According of Sergeant Kirkland Cross of Trelawny Traffic Department, Cooper sustained head injuries and was taken to Falmouth Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The passengers in the Toyota Yaris and the Nissan motor cars, as well as one from the bus, also received injuries during the accident.
The crash resulted in a huge pile-up of traffic on the usually busy roadway.
